Zhengzhou is the capital of Henan Province.
The city is mainly known for its distinct Quyi scene. Quyi is an umbrella term for various traditional Chinese art forms, such as the pingshu (storytelling), (monologues to the beat of percussion instruments) and xiangsheng (humorous dialogues).
For centuries, quyi has been an important part of Zhengzhou’s culture. Today, the Quyi artists often give their performances in the city’s parks. Quyi is very difficult to learn and is therefore increasingly being pushed out of the mainstream of the Chinese entertainment industry and is already partly considered an endangered art form. It is all the more surprising that foreign students in particular are increasingly becoming familiar faces on the Quyi stages of Zhengzhou.

Kung Fu is one of the most famous parts of Chinese culture. The Shaolin Temple near Zhengzhou is considered one of the three birthplaces of Chinese kung Fu.
