Uganda is located in East Africa and is 241,040 square kilometers, about two-thirds the size of Germany. The name Uganda goes back to the kingdom of Buganda. As a partially independent province, it is still part of Uganda today and is located within the territory of the state of Uganda. It occupies an area in the south on Lake Victoria.

Uganda borders Rwanda and Tanzania to the south, the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the west, South Sudan to the north and Kenya to the east. In the west of the country is the western branch of the East African Trench, which was formed many millions of years ago. There are several lakes in this wide depression.
Lots of water in Uganda
Even if Uganda does not border the sea, but is a landlocked country, there is a lot of water there: one sixth of the total area of the country is water. A large part is occupied by Lake Victoria, which Uganda shares with Tanzania and Kenya and which can be found in the south-east of the country. The border to the DR Congo runs through Lake Albert and Lake Eduard. Other lakes are located in the center of the country. In addition, there are many rivers, the longest of which is the White Nile. His names are Viktoria-Nil and Albert-Nil.
Uganda is located on a wide plateau. There are hills here, alternating with flat basin landscapes. The White Nile and the many lakes characterize Uganda’s landscape. Rainforests and savannah landscapes can be discovered as well as tea plantations and snow-covered mountains.
Especially worth seeing are the Murchinson Falls. Here the White Nile plunges several hundred meters into the depths. Volcanic landscapes are also to be discovered, such as the volcano Mount Elgon, which is located on the border with Kenya. Other volcanoes are located in the south of Uganda.
