The Turks and Caicos Islands, although geographically located in the Atlantic Ocean, are still counted among the Caribbean. The two small island groups form the southeastern foothills of the Bahamas. About 150 km to the south are Haiti and the Dominican Republic. 50 km to the southwest is the Inagua archipelago, which belongs to the Bahamas. The completely flat islands are located on an undersea plateau, the walls of which extend into deep ocean trenches.
