Which country is Toluca?
About an hour west of the Mexican capital, the capital of the state of Mexico is located in a wonderfully green valley: Toluca. It is one of the most important major cities in the country. At 2,680 m above sea level, Toluca is the highest city in Mexico and North America. There is a semi-humid, temperate climate.

Thanks to the various museums, theaters and cinemas, there is a wide range of cultural and leisure activities in the city. Every Friday you can listen to one of the best orchestras in the country, the “Orquesta Sinfónica del Estado de México” in the concert hall of Toluca.
The area in the valley of Toluca has been inhabited since about 1200 BC, finds prove that several cultures settled here one after the other over time. Missionaries from the Franciscan Order reached the area as early as 1522, making Toluca one of the first settlements of the Spanish colonial period in Mexico.
Probably the most famous attraction of the place is the Botanical Garden.
The Botanical Garden of Toluca contains stunning, huge stained-glass windows that tell the story of the origin and demise of people. Also particularly popular with travelers are the visits to the indigenous markets, which sometimes take place here every day and sell agricultural products and handicrafts of the region. Here you can also get the well-known tree of life, a typical souvenir from Mexico.
Alternatively, in the surrounding villages you can buy beautiful pottery, blankets or towels as a souvenir.
