Tai’an is located about 70 km south of the provincial capital Jinan of the eastern Chinese province of Shandong.
Due to its location at the foot of the sacred mountain Taishan, Tai’an has been a well-developed tourist pilgrimage destination since the Ming Dynasty (1368 – 1644).

Peculiarities
A small German church, which is a testimony of the German occupation period and the even older attempts of German Catholic mission in Shandong. The old station building was also built by German builders.
Landmarks
The 1545m high mountain Tai Shan, already mentioned by Confucius, is one of the sacred mountains of China. The path to the summit has (supposedly) 6,666 steps. He is the most climbed mountain in the world. There are numerous temples and shrines on the summit, but also tourist facilities. In good weather, the view is magnificent, and the sunrises are considered especially beautiful.
