Spain is located in the south-west of Europe and borders with France (in the north) and Portugal (in the west). Most of its territory is a peninsula, but it includes two large archipelagos. The Balearic Islands are located off the coasts of Catalonia and Valencia, in the Mediterranean Sea. The Canaries are located in the Atlantic Ocean, about 1,500 kilometers from the coast of Andalusia, in the south of the peninsula. Spain also has two autonomous cities: Ceuta and Melilla. They are located in the north of the African continent and are perfectly connected to the coast of Andalusia by ferries.

The Spanish Peninsula, together with Portugal, forms the so-called Iberian Peninsula and is surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea (in the east and south), the Atlantic Ocean (in the west and partly in the north and south) and the Cantabrian Sea (in the north).
Spain is a south-western European country that occupies the largest part of the Iberian Peninsula. The location of Spain is located in the south of France, in the west of Portugal, which forms the smaller part of the peninsula and it is bordered to the east by the Mediterranean Sea. In the northwest and in the far south, west of Gibraltar, the Atlantic Ocean surrounds the coasts.
What country is Spain located in?
Together with Portugal and little Gibraltar (which belongs to Great Britain), Spain is located in the south-west of Europe on the Iberian Peninsula. It is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean to the west and the Mediterranean Sea to the east. Only in the north it is connected with the rest of Europe. There are the Pyrenees, a mountain range. Spain occupies most of the Iberian Peninsula.
Spain has land borders with Portugal, which occupies the southwestern part of the Iberian Peninsula, and in the north with France. In the Pyrenees is the small country of Andorra, which also borders Spain. Because Gibraltar belongs to Great Britain, Spain also has a small border with Great Britain.
Spain is one of the largest countries in Europe, if you measure the area. Only Russia, Ukraine and France are bigger (although Russia’s larger part belongs to Asia). In terms of population, Spain ranks 6th in Europe.
In addition to the mainland, Spain also includes some islands and island groups. You may have heard of Mallorca or have been there before. Mallorca belongs with Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera to the Balearic Islands (also called Balearic Islands for short). They are located in the Mediterranean Sea.
In the Atlantic Ocean, off the coast of West Africa, lie the Canary Islands (Canaries). They include Tenerife, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro.
