The island state is one of the countries with the highest population density in the world. With a population of 5.6 million, this is 7799 inhabitants per square kilometer.

Singapore is also an island and is connected to the Malay Peninsula by dams. The connection to the country is through the Johor-Singapore Causeway and the Second Link bridge, which leads over the one kilometer wide Jojor Road. Singapore is located on a strait, also called the Strait of Singapore, between the Indian Ocean and the South China Sea.

The main island of Singapore stretches over 42 kilometers from east to west. From north to south it is 23 kilometers. The length of the coastline is 140 kilometers. Land reclamation is very important for Singapore. Singapore is hardly as big as Hamburg, so earth material is taken from other countries, from the seabed and from its own mountains. The measures of land reclamation are crowned with success, because since the 60s, Singapore has already grown over 100 km2. It is planned to expand the land masses to 800 square kilometers by 2030. This acute shortage of space is also the reason why Singapore has the highest cost of living in the world. In addition to the already high number of inhabitants, Singapore is also one of the most visited cities in the world with around 11 million annual tourists. In addition to Hong Kong, the city-state of Singapore is thus the most important financial center and trade hub of Asia.

If you are in Singapore for the first time, you will not be able to get out of amazement: in the middle of chaotic Southeast Asia, Singapore stands out from its neighboring countries with its wealth, breathtaking new buildings and internationality.
