With around 6,000 inhabitants, Schaan is the largest municipality in the Principality of Liechtenstein. The town, which is located in the Liechtenstein Oberland and is dominated by the Alps, has no contiguous municipal area. In addition to the two old town centers around the parish church of St. Lawrence and the chapel of St. Peter, Schaan has a total of four exclaves. In addition, the municipality, which is called “Schaa” in the Liechtenstein dialect, encloses two enclaves belonging to Vaduz and Planken, respectively.
