Is Russia located in Europe or Asia?

Russia has twelve neighboring states (only China owns more, namely 14). Russia’s neighbors are Norway, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Belarus, Ukraine, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan (the longest common border with 6846 kilometers), China, Mongolia and North Korea.

In the north, Russia is bordered by the Arctic Ocean, in the east by the Pacific Ocean. The northeasternmost tip of the country borders on the Bering Strait. Here, Russia is only 85 kilometers away from Alaska and thus the USA.

Russia also owns land outside its core territory, an exclave. This is the area around the city of Kaliningrad. It borders with Lithuania and Poland.

From west to east, Russia measures 9000 kilometers! Anyone who travels through the country has to change his watch quite often, because he comes through eleven time zones! Russia also has the longest railway line in the world. It is called the Trans-Siberian Railway. From Moscow to Vladivostok, the journey takes 162 hours, which is almost a whole week!
