Which country belongs to Qatar?
Qatar is located on a peninsula on the Arabian Gulf. The country borders on Saudi Arabia in the south and thus on the Arabian Peninsula itself. Off the coast in the west is the Kingdom of Bahrain. In the past, the present peninsula was a real island, as the Sabkhas prove. These are salt pans that can be found on the border with the Arabian Peninsula.
Towards the north, the landscape changes from swampy areas to a dry hilly landscape that covers most of Qatar. However, there is no real mountain range in Qatar, the highest point of the country is the “mountain” Qurain Abu l-Baul with 103 meters.
With an area of 11,437 square kilometers, Qatar is about the size of the three German cities of Berlin, Munich and Frankfurt combined. Some smaller islands around Qatar are also part of the national territory. On the coast there is some variety with the coral reefs and bays to the landscape, which is otherwise covered by boulders and gravel.
The capital of Qatar is called Doha, which means as much as “bay”. It is located directly on the Arabian (Persian) Gulf and, in addition to a large airport and important educational facilities, houses locations for the country’s fish and oil industry. As the tourist center of Qatar, Doha also has a lot to offer to visitors from all over the world, for example, the National Museum or the Museum of Islamic Art. In Doha, construction is being carried out diligently, hotels, apartment blocks and large shopping centers are being built. At the same time, the capital of Qatar is to develop into an educational and leisure center in order to find alternatives for the state income through the sale of petroleum. This also puts Doha in competition with Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
