With about 1.3 million inhabitants, Port-au-Prince is not only Haiti’s most populous city, but also the country’s capital. Another 1 million people live around Port-au-Prince, but the vast majority live in poverty.


On the slopes around the city, one slum borders the other. After the great earthquake in 2010, which destroyed large parts of the city, Port-au-Prince is still under reconstruction. The epicenter of the earthquake was only about 20 km away and thus the damage was immense.
