Örebro is located in the heart of Sweden, in the middle of the most populous area of the country. Between the capital Stockholm, which is about 200 km to the east, and Gothenburg, which is about 300 km to the west. With almost 120,000 inhabitants, Örebro is quite small, but it is still Sweden’s sixth largest city.
The river Svartån meanders through the city and flows not far from it into the Hjälmaren, one of the largest lakes in Sweden. Örebro is surrounded by forests and lakes, but very easy to reach due to its central location.

The imposing castle testifies to a fortification since the 13th century. For a long time Örebro was also an important hub for transport and trade. In the second half of the 19th century, the national center of shoe production was located there.
