The municipality of Móstoles is the second most populous in the Autonomous Community (more than 200,000 inhabitants). It is located south of the capital, at kilometer 18 of the Extremadura highway.

Although its origins and its denomination are unclear, we know that in 1565 it was considered a town with its own charter, at which time it ceased to be a village linked to the city of Toledo thanks to a privilege granted by Felipe II. Today, due to its geographical and socioeconomic situation, the importance of Móstoles within the Autonomous Community of Madrid is notorious and it is considered the capital of the so-called ‘Great South’, in which more than one million inhabitants are concentrated.
