With about 10,000 students, NMU is slightly smaller than the University of Oldenburg. It is located in the small town of Marquette, which has around 20,000 inhabitants. These are considered to be particularly close to nature, which is certainly due to the proximity to Lake Superior. The location also explains the wide range of water sports and hiking opportunities. But also winter sports are not neglected – because it gets cold in winter.

Academically, the main focuses of NMU are in the departments of art, English, pedagogy, special education and business administration. Courses can only be chosen at bachelor’s level.
