What country is Managua located in?

Managua (about 1.8 million inhabitants) is the capital of Nicaragua. The city is located on the southern shore of Lake Managua – Lake Managua. The city was founded in the 16th century and since 1858 it has been the capital and at the same time the largest city in the country.

In 1931 and 1972 it was almost completely destroyed by severe earthquakes. The city has one peculiarity: there are no street names! Instead, the houses are characterized by distinctive points. Finding something here is like a city rally. The symbol of the city is the Nueva Cathedral – the Cathedral of Santiago de Managua. After a tour of the city, the lakeside promenade of Lago de Managua invites you to linger. Or you can visit the Tiscapa Lagoon Nature Reserve – a recreation area in the middle of the city.

One of the main attractions of Managua is the Cathedral of Santiago de Managua, which was built in 1925 and inaugurated in 1946. It is located in the Plaza de la Revolución. Inside it is the oversized statue of Agusto César (1895-1934), who led the Nicaraguan resistance against the United States.
