Malaysia consists of two parts of the country. They are separated by the South China Sea. Thus, Western and Eastern Malaysia are located at least 600 kilometers from each other.
West Malaysia is located on the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula and borders Thailand to the north. To the south is Singapore. East Malaysia is located on the island of Borneo and includes two states. They are called Sabah and Sarawak and are located in the north of Borneo. The eastern part borders Indonesia. The Sultanate of Brunei is surrounded by East Malaysia.

Malaysia is a union of 13 states and three federal territories. These do not officially belong to one of the 13 states, but are directly subordinate to the federal government. They are called Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan.
The highest mountain in Malaysia is called Kinabalu and is located in the north of the island of Borneo in Sabah. It reaches a height of over 4000 meters. Also in the east are cave systems, which are said to be the largest natural cave systems in the whole world. These are located in a national park called Gunung Mulu. The longest river in the country is called Rajang, it is also located in eastern Malaysia, that is, on the island of Borneo, and stretches for 563 kilometers.
Western Malaysia runs through mountainous country from north to south. The highest mountain in this region is called Gunung Tahan and it still reaches a height of 2187 meters. To the east and west, the mountains flatten and hilly or coastal lowlands characterize this landscape.
At one time, East Malaysia was almost entirely covered by tropical rainforests. There, too, a mountain range in the interior shapes the landscape. This is also the highest mountain in Malaysia. Mount Kinabalu rises in the north of Sabah. In the area of the middle Sarawa and in the south of Sabah, the mountains flatten. There are a lot of rivers flowing here. The east is less developed than the Malay Peninsula, in the west there are a lot of plantations for rubber trees and oil palms, so more agriculture.
