Gothenburg is the second largest city in Sweden and is located on the west coast of the country. The number of inhabitants is half a million, another 250,000 people live in satellite towns outside the city limits. Gothenburg has a proportion of foreigners of about 10 percent; the multicultural composition of the population can be traced back far into history. Of particular note is the port of Gothenburg, which is considered the largest in Scandinavia. The city is known as very cosmopolitan and hospitable. It has a lot to offer in terms of history and culture and is therefore a serious competitor to the Swedish capital Stockholm.
