Funen is the fourth largest island in Denmark and is rich in glorious history: about 120 castles and manors are still preserved today. Funen is one of the oldest settlement sites in the north, some finds from the now underwater Tybrind vig off Middelfart are about 7000 years old. H.C. Andersen, who was born on Funen, once said: “I write Funen just like the word ‘fin’ (in German: ‘fine, good’). There is nothing more to say.”
