Ecuador is located in the northwest of South America. It borders Colombia to the north, Peru to the east and south. To the west is the Pacific Ocean.



Ecuador is Spanish and means equator. It runs through the country, namely in the north of the country, about 20 kilometers north of the capital Quito. Thus, the greater part of the country is located in the southern hemisphere of the Earth.
Ecuador is the fourth smallest state in South America (after Suriname, Uruguay and Guyana). Until the Spanish conquest, Ecuador was part of the Inca Empire.

One can distinguish three large landscapes in Ecuador: the coast with its alluvial land is followed to the east by the Andes. This is followed by the Amazon lowland. It is shaped like a “belly” on cards.
