What country does Dominican Republic belong to?
The island of Hispaniola is located in the Caribbean Sea. Together with Cuba, Jamaica and Puerto Rico, it belongs to the archipelago of the Greater Antilles. Hispaniola is divided into two countries: Haiti to the west and the Dominican Republic, which is about twice as large, to the east. In the north of the island is the Atlantic Ocean, in the south the Caribbean Sea. The state includes other small islands and coral islands, the Cays. The Dominican Republic belongs to North America.



How does it look there?
The landscape is predominantly mountainous. It becomes shallower only in the east and in a wide valley in the north, stretching from west to east, the Cibao Valley. There are the cities of Santiago de los Caballeros (the second largest city in the country) and Vega. The valley is particularly fertile and so most agriculture is practiced here. In the plain to the east there are many sugar cane plantations.
The highest mountain range is located in the center of the country. It is called Cordillera Central. There is also the highest mountain in the country, the Pico Duarte with a height of 3098 meters. He and four other mountains have the highest peaks in the Caribbean.
The largest lake in the country is Lake Enriquillo, a salt lake formed from a former estuary. Several rivers flow from the mountains into the sea, the longest is the Yaque del Norte with a length of 298 kilometers.
