Which country is Conakry?
Guinea is a country in the west of Africa. It borders on six countries and on the Atlantic Ocean. Germany is about half the size of Guinea and has about seven times as many inhabitants. The capital of Guinea is called Conakry and is located by the sea. Conakry is the only city in Guinea with over one million inhabitants. About every seventh inhabitant of the country lives there.


The name Guinea comes from the Tuareg language, which is common in West Africa. Guinea means “black man’s land” or “bushland”. The official language in Guinea is French. Most of the inhabitants are Muslims. Very few belong to Christianity.
The flag of Guinea shows three stripes in the colors red, yellow and green. Red stands for the blood shed in the struggle for independence. Yellow symbolizes the wealth of gold, the sun and justice. The color green stands for the fertile land.
