Changchun is the capital of Jilin Province in the northeast of the People’s Republic of China. In 2005, Changchun had about 2.5 million inhabitants in the city center and more than 7 million in the entire urban area. Currently, these figures are likely to be much larger.

Changchun is translated as long spring and is the capital of Jilin Province. It is the most important industrial city in the extreme northeast of the People’s Republic of China, has more than eight million inhabitants and is still a category 4 city, so not too big for Chinese standards. Changchun used to be an important steel city, but today it is known for the automotive industry and its suppliers. The population is predominantly made up of Han Chinese and a large number of minorities. Changchun has grown steadily in recent years, which is due to the resettlement project of the Chinese state government. The number of residents is expected to double by 2025.
The climate is continental, nevertheless there are very cold winters with -20 degrees and cold and very dry air. The summers, on the other hand, are hot and often humid.
In the north-east of the city, a mountainous landscape rises, which lends itself to hiking and, above all, skiing. In the northwest it goes towards Inner Mongolia and the Russian border. The grassland there is a recommended travel destination. To the south, a wide flat plain opens up with huge agricultural areas: rice and corn fields, as well as vegetable cultivation characterize the landscape.
