Caracas was founded in 1567 by the Spanish conqueror Diego de Losada, but the region had already been settled by the Caraca tribe before. The population is growing rapidly. While in 1873 the city still had around 60,000 inhabitants, the number of inhabitants is now estimated at around 5-6 million. This corresponds to about a quarter of the total population of Venezuela. What country is Caracas located in?
