With about 400,000 inhabitants, Canberra is only the eighth largest city in Australia. Together with some suburbs, it forms a capital district called the “Australian Capital Territory”. Around this district, the area is very rural and sparsely populated. At the same time, the government of the capital district assumes the duties of the mayor. Canberra doesn’t have a mayor.

Many residents work in the numerous institutions of the state. The Parliament of Australia is located right in the center of the city, surrounded by a huge roundabout. From there, wide roads run in all directions. In addition, the city has numerous museums, theaters, universities and a casino. Every year in March the “Canberra Balloon Spectacular” takes place. Then 50 hot air balloons are released into the air.
