Already a celebrity many centuries ago, Bologna is today the capital of Emilia-Romagna, just a few kilometers east of Modena and west of Ravenna, located directly on the A1.

The history of the city:
It was only under the Romans that the present-day city arose as a small, rather insignificant settlement, which in the course of the empire grew into a colony and a municipium during the Empire. After the fall of the empire, the city had to endure several new lords before it became an independent city republic in the Middle Ages and reached the peak of its power in 1249. In addition, the first university in the world was founded in Bologna in 1088, which has earned it the name “The Scholar” ever since. In the late Middle Ages, the rulers of the city changed quite often and eventually the original republic became part of the papal state, which was to last until the unification of Italy. During the Second World War, it was partially damaged and fell into Polish hands at the end of it, before it was handed over to the Italian government again and has since become one of the most prosperous and successful cities in terms of urban development.
