What country is Belgium in?

Belgium is located in Western Europe and borders on the Netherlands, Germany, Luxembourg and France. There are about eleven million inhabitants on 30,528 square kilometers. Belgium is about the same size as the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

The country is divided into the north, where the Flemish who speak Dutch live, and the south with the Walloons who speak French. In the east, a small group of people speak High German.

Belgium shares a border with Germany of 167 kilometres, with France of 620 kilometres, with Luxembourg of 148 kilometres and with the Netherlands of 450 kilometres.

Belgium is divided into three larger landscapes: the lowland, which is up to 100 meters above sea level, Central Belgium, which is between 100 and 200 meters, and High Belgium, which is between 200 and more than 500 meters above sea level.

Most of the country is quite flat. Only in the southeast, in the area of the Ardennes, it becomes a little more hilly. The Ardennes are a mountain range with a lot of forest, meadows and waters. The highest mountain in Belgium is located in the south and is the Botrange with a height of 694 meters. This mountain is found in a high moor area.

The longest river in Belgium is the Meuse, which reaches a total length of 925 kilometers. 183 kilometers of it flow through Belgium. Another river is the Scheldt. Belgium has access to the North Sea. The length of the coast is about 70 kilometers.
