The municipality of Bayamón is located in the north-central region of Puerto Rico. It comprises an area of 115.1 square kilometers (44.4 miles2). It is known as “the village of Chicharrón”. According to the 2000 census, its general population was 224,044 Bayamonese. Bayamón has twelve neighborhoods: Bayamón Pueblo, Buena Vista, Cerro Gordo, Dajaos, Guaraguao Abajo, Guaraguao Arriba, Hato Tejas, Juan Sánchez, Minillas, Nuevo (traditionally known as Barrio-nuevo), Pájaros and Santa Olaya. Its patron saint festivities are dedicated to the Holy Cross and are celebrated between the end of April and the beginning of May. Its economy thrives on trade and manufacturing.

For example, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recognized the municipality as a community of great environmental achievements on the Island. Among his achievements, the development of an “ecologically responsible” golf course stands out. This course was established on the grounds of the old municipal landfill, this golf course has as a priority to serve low-income communities.
