The Asian continent is divided into six regions: North Asia, Central Asia, Middle Asia, South Asia, East Asia and Southeast Asia. Although the borders may vary from time to time, which is due to the fact that the classification is sometimes interpreted differently, but we use the official classification established by the United Nations.
Where is Asia exactly located?
Asia is the largest of the continents. This is also where most of the people on Earth live: four billion, that is, almost two-thirds of all people. The states of China and India alone each have more than one billion inhabitants. The largest country in the world, Russia, is also located for the most part in Asia.
In the west, Asia borders directly on Europe. As a border, many people call the Ural Mountains in Russia. However, there is no real border like an ocean, which is why both continents are also called Eurasia together.
If you leave Asia in the southwest, then you travel from Israel in Asia to Egypt in Africa. In the southeast of Asia, you can’t get any further by land: there you can continue to Australia by ship or plane.
In Asia, the highest mountain on Earth, Mount Everest, is located in the Himalayan Mountains. It is 8848 meters high. Lake Aral used to be the third largest lake in the world before people took too much water. Lake Baikal is especially deep: 1642 meters, otherwise only oceans are so deep. The Dead Sea, in turn, is especially deep below sea level, even if the water in it itself is not so deep.
In terms of area, North Asia is the largest region on the Asian continent. Only Russia is counted among them, which, in turn, is divided into three federal districts. These include the Asian part of the Urals, Siberia and the Far East. The entire area is about 13 million square kilometers. Despite this size, it is quite sparsely populated, there are only 38 million people living there, which is largely due to the great steppes, tundras, deserts and mountains. The Far East has the fewest inhabitants with just under 6.5 million, followed by the Urals with 12 million and Siberia with 19.5 million.
Asia, part of Eurasia, is the largest continent in terms of area with about 44.615 million square kilometers, about a third of the total land mass. With over four billion people, more than half of the world’s population, this part of the world is also the most populous.
Asia is the largest continent on Earth. With an area of about 44.614 million square kilometers (excluding Russia 31.7 million square kilometers), it covers about a third of the total land mass. Together with Europe, Asia is also considered part of the major continent of Eurasia.
The continental landmass is located entirely in the eastern Hemisphere and north of the equator, with the exception of the Chukchi Peninsula in Eastern Siberia, which is east of the date line, and the most southeastern islands in the Malay Archipelago, which are located in the southern hemisphere of the Earth.
Asia is bordered by the Arctic Ocean to the north, the Pacific Ocean to the east, and the Indian Ocean to the south.
Asia has no clear geographical or geological boundary with Europe in the West. The most common definition of the border with Europe from north to south: the Ural Mountains, the Ural River, the Caspian Sea, the Caucasus, the southern coast of the Black Sea, as well as the Bosphorus, the Sea of Marmara and the Dardanelles. From the Barents Sea to the Black Sea, this border is about 2,700 km long.
Asia is connected to Africa north of the Red Sea via the Sinai Peninsula (isthmus of Suez, 145 km wide).
In the northeast, the mainland masses of Asia and North America are located on the Bering Strait a little more than 80 km from each other.
In the southeast, the Malay Archipelago forms the connection with Australia. The southernmost point is the Indonesian island of Pamana.
