Where in the USA is Albuquerque?
With over half a million inhabitants, the high-altitude Albuquerque is the largest conurbation in New Mexico. The city is picturesquely located in the shadow of the pink shining Sandia Mountains and is intersected by the mighty Rio Grande. Culture and gastronomy are unmistakably influenced by the southwest of the USA. In addition to the indigenous tribes that have lived in the region for several millennia, the years as a Spanish colony in the 18th century have also left their mark. With 310 days of sunshine a year and the stunning scenery of the surrounding desert and mountain landscape, Albuquerque is an ideal outdoor playground for every season.
Officially, Albuquerque was re-established in present-day New Mexico in 1706 by Spanish settlers. The settlers were very religious people. Therefore, the first building of the city was a church, before the simple residential houses were built in clay construction. To this day, some buildings from the founding years have survived the times.
