In which country Accra is located?
Ghana is a country in West Africa. With Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso and Togo, the country has three neighboring countries. The capital is Accra. It is located in the south of the country, right on the coast to the Atlantic Ocean. Together with the city of Kumasi, Accra is one of the two largest cities in Ghana.
Ghana is just over half the size of Germany. But Germany has about three times as many inhabitants. In most countries of West Africa, the official language is French, but Ghana is an exception with English.
Ghana is close to the equator. The days and nights are almost always the same length. But there are also big differences: in the coastal plain and in the adjacent rainforest, the climate is very humid. So there is a lot of rain. In the north, however, there is a dry savannah.
Ghana is a state in West Africa. It is bordered to the south by the Gulf of Guinea, to the north by Burkina Faso, to the west by the Ivory Coast and to the east by Togo.
The state includes the former British colony of Gold Coast and part of the former German colony of Togo.
A narrow coastal plain adjoins the coast to the north. Inland follows a highland cut by valleys. To the north it passes to the basin of the middle Volta. The 1600 km long Volta is the main stream of the country. The Volta Reservoir is the largest reservoir in the world. The south of Ghana has a humid tropical climate with two rainy seasons. Tropical rainforest and wet savannas dominate. In the north, with only one rainy season, the dry savanna predominates as a vegetation type.
Ghana is a tropical country that is climatically influenced by the near equator. Thus, there are no four seasons in Ghana, but only one dry and one wet season. The dry season is very hot, the rainy season is sultry.
The landscapes in Ghana change quickly: there are thickets, grasslands, savannah, and also rainforest. Especially in the tropical forests, much is still largely unexplored. There are ancient huge trees and exotic plants there.
Originally, the rainforest in Ghana was much larger than it is today, but after the Second World War, Ghana’s colonial power Britain needed money. The precious woods were felled, extensive cocoa and coffee plantations were created and large areas for pineapple farms were cleared.
